Hypnosis

What is hypnosis and what does a hypnotherapist do.

Let me start by saying what hypnosis is not! It is not a state of sleep, and it is not a state of being unconscious. One does not reveal secrets nor lose their will power. It is a state of being super relaxed yet aware of your environment while tapping into your subconscious mind.

I know of no other clinical procedure that can be applied as extensively to so many fields as hypnosis. Hypnosis can be used for:

Habit control (overeating, smoking, nail biting, etc.)

Improve abilities (test taking, public speaking, athletic performance etc.)

Medical procedures (withdrawal symptoms, pain reduction, migraines, etc.)

Personal development (anxiety and phobias, relaxation and stress reduction, confidence, etc.)

In hypnosis, we withdraw our attention from external reality. At the same time there is an intensification of your internal world. When you are submerged in the internal, you can access your self image. Your image of yourself is what we can work with in hypnosis. By creating new images and feeding them into the psyche of the patient, we can create change.

Quite often we become what we think we are.  If our self image is one of failure, we fail. If we hold onto the images of ourselves which are successful, most likely we will succeed.

In hypnosis we create new images or visuals which will overcome the old destructive ones. We feed our brain with constructive and positive messages, leading to a new state of confidence.

HYPNOSPORT

We tend to trivialize statements such as “it’s all in the mind”, but programming our mind to stay focused and motivated is as important as our natural ability and consistent practice.

Hypnosis or self- hypnosis is often used to improve outcome and determination. Many of us impose on ourselves limitations and fears, based on our negative self concept. You are more likely to fail if you believe you will, and you are more likely to win if you truly believe you are a winner.

In the 1956 Olympics, the Russians employed eleven hypnotists! They were supposed to increase the team’s determination to win and to build confidence.

Creating a new and improved self-image through hypnosis can elevate your performance and ability. Often times, just before competitions you are faced with psychological intrusions. The symptoms can range from simple “stage fright” to various forms of tension, disturbed sleep and troubling obsessions.

Using hypnosis can modify and eliminate these symptoms.
When you go for hypnosis, you actually hypnotize yourself. The Hypnotherapist is simply the coach who can point out to you the best method to help yourself. The Hypnotherapist is the “eliminator” of negative thinking, and the “provider” of new and positive feedback.
